Ulož.to in the browser: same comfort, one install fewer

Ulož.to is the largest Czech cloud storage platform, trusted by users for its stability and availability. We designed its new web-based file manager – fast, responsive, and with the comfort of a desktop app right in the browser.

our mission

Bringing desktop comfort where nobody expected it

The Ulož.to web file manager was falling behind technologically and in user experience, so users preferred the desktop app. The client wanted a modern web solution that could match it. Our task was to design and develop a new File Manager: list and grid views, uploads, folder creation, copying, link sharing, folder tree navigation, and breadcrumbs. All of it working equally well on desktop and mobile.

challenges

Thousands of items, dozens of interactions, one seamless experience

Ulož.to users commonly have thousands of files in their folders, and the app couldn't afford to stutter under the load. On top of that came demanding interactivity: bulk selection, drag & drop, context menus, and keyboard shortcuts that must not interfere with each other. The third dimension was responsiveness – the same features had to work on mobile devices with touch controls, where neither right-click nor keyboard are available.

solution

Virtualization, modern stack, and agile pace

We built the app on TypeScript, React, and Redux Saga, which reliably handle even complex asynchronous file operations. Data virtualization renders only what the user currently sees, keeping even massive folders snappy. We designed interactions as one consistent system for mouse, keyboard, and touch. Stability is guarded by automated Cypress tests, and agile iterations with regular client feedback ensured the result fits users' needs precisely.
