Books are being replaced by online content, texts are getting shorter, and language is increasingly mixing Czech with English. But what if we started playing with words again? Slovohrátky is a startup that combines speech therapy, illustration, and coding into a single app. Qest supported and fully developed this project to help children improve their native language skills—through a fun mobile game for tablets.
Frontend: React.js, Swift, Kotlin Backend: Node.js, PostgreSQL Cloud: AWS, Google Cloud
Slovohrátky helps children develop correct pronunciation and language skills. The exercises in the app are based on the extensive experience of renowned speech therapist Mgr. Helena Kolbábková. The illustrations were created by her daughter, Mgr. Eva Kusalová, who is also a special education teacher.
One of the biggest challenges was digitizing hand-drawn illustrations while preserving their authenticity and adapting them for animation across different devices. Developing the app was a valuable learning experience for Qest’s young team, who gained expertise in working with illustrations, graphics, and interactive content.
Slovohrátky is an educational mobile game available for Android and iOS. It offers interactive tasks based on stories and exercises created by experts. With in-app purchases, parents can expand the app’s content to suit their child’s needs.
In our Qcast, we dive into the challenges of digitizing speech therapy exercises and the development process behind the educational Slovohrátky app.
